The specs for the local disk are in the question. Turns out that Symantec BackupExec doesn’t play nice with the current Adaptec drivers. This combination worked well with WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit, but since upgrading to Windows 10 64 bit it hangs just as Windows begins to load.

Thanks all for your help. Using the tape driver provided by Symantec did not resolve the problem, and actually slowed the write speed slightly. ISP or something else? So the problem isn’t a matter of the RAID system not being fast enough, nor is it BackupExec not being able to write fast enough. There is a problem, bacause drive is id 0 and library id 1. I had found that with BackupExec, under the General options, if you have the compression type set to “Hardware [if available, otherwise software]”, the job will run much slower.
